
25 Sep Nominations invited from amenity groups for National Landscape Partnership Committee
The South Devon National Landscape Unit is inviting nominations from amenity groups for a representative to serve on the National Landscape Partnership Committee. Nominations should be submitted by Monday 2nd October. The election will take place at the National Landscape Annual Forum at Venus cafe, Blackpool Sands on Thursday 5th October.2017.
Purpose of the Committee:
To provide a strategic lead in the protection and care of the South Devon National Landscape.
To oversee the preparation of the National Landscape Management Plan.
To promote awareness of the special qualities and national status of the National Landscape.
To provide guidance to the work of the National Landscape staff unit.
To advise on projects and activities that benefit the National Landscape
The Partnership Committee is made up of:
- The four National Landscape local authorities (South Hams District Council, Devon County Council, Torbay Council and Plymouth City Council);
- Statutory agencies (Natural England, the Environment Agency. Historic England and the Forestry Commission);
- The National Trust
- The University of Plymouth
- The Slapton Field Studies Centre
- Seven members representing community interests.
What kind of person is needed?
The National Landscape Partnership Committee aims to have members who:
Bring to the Partnership a wealth of experience and expertise of their own and of their respective organisations.
Have a good knowledge of the area and understanding of local issues.
Are committed to the purposes of National Landscape designation and management.
Can act as an advocate for the National Landscape through their respective organisations.
Attend the Partnership Committee meetings.
Are active outside the scheduled Partnership Committee meetings
Meetings
The full Committee normally meets four times a year, at different venues around the National Landscape, on a Friday. The meeting in the morning is usually followed by an optional afternoon visit in the locality to examine topical issues in more detail. There are also occasional additional meetings such as the annual open forum.
