Join Devon Wildlife Trust staff and volunteers for a guided tour of some of the best rockpools in the UK!

Wembury Bay has long been recognised for its amazing rocky shore environment. In fact, Wembury is often found on the list of the top rockpooling spots in the UK.

DWT’s expert team will take you on a guided rockpool safari to meet and learn about some of Wembury’s most famous inhabitants, from crabs to starfish and everything in between.

    • Refunds will be issued up to 1 day before the event starts, minus the Eventbrite booking fee.
    • If the event is cancelled by DWT due to poor weather, you will receive a full refund

Know before you go

• Suitability
  • Open to all ages, but children must be accompanied by a paying adult
  • We welcome attendees with an interest in finding out more about local marine life and are keen to learn or improve their identification and rockpooling skills.
• Dogs
  • No – dogs are not allowed on the beach 1st May to 20th September
  • Although assistance dogs are allowed year round, the nature of the rocky terrain may make it unsafe for dogs
• What to bring
  • Please don’t bring nets – we’ll follow the Seashore Code and use our hands and tubs (tubs provided)
  • Wear wellies/sturdy shoes that can get wet- rocks can be sharp so wearing thick-soled footwear with good grips is essential
  • Wear weather appropriate clothing and be prepared for unpredictable weather
  • Bring snacks and drinks as necessary
• Accessibility
  • The event takes place on Wembury beach and the surrounding rocky foreshore
  • Involves walking a good distance, 200m+, over very slippery seaweed covered rocks, steep paths, sand, other uneven ground
  • Instruction is provided verbally by a group leader in English within an outdoor setting where there may be background noise (wind or rain). Printed copies of some information can be made available with advance notice. The event takes place in a popular public place but is not usually crowded once we start rockpooling. Flash photography may be used by staff and participants but is not usually noticeable in daylight. Noise cancelling ear muffs can only be used if the attendee has someone with them who is able to listen and interpret the instructions for them.

  • Parking is free for National Trust members, parking charges apply to non-National Trust members and vary depending on the time of year (please bring correct change or pay by phone).
  • The car park can fill up very quickly on hot, sunny days so please leave plenty of time to park and aim to arrive at the Marine Centre 10mins before the event starts
