SUMMARY:Life on the Edge Walks Series (16) – The Dart Estuary (from Kingswear)
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row css_animation=”” row_type=”row” use_row_as_full_screen_section=”no” type=”full_width” angled_section=”no” text_align=”left” background_image_as_pattern=”without_pattern”][vc_column][vc_column_text css=””] \nJoin us for the latest in our series of walks aimed at helping you discover more about the South Devon National Landscape.\nThis will be a lovely walk from the village of Kingswear. We shall be following the Eastern bank of the Dart Estuary until Long Wood\, near Noss-on-Dart. We’ll then return to Kingswear\, via a different\, somewhat parallel\, path . Our Estuaries Officer\, Nigel\, will be leading us and helping to bring alive the varied views of the main estuary\, a hidden secret creek and the native woodland. This is a moderate walk of about 5 ½ miles\, with some muddy\, uneven and unsurfaced stretches of footpath – expect some short steep inclines & declines. The meeting point for the walk will be The Banjo\, on the pavement at the Brixham Road junction\, opposite Kingswear Village Stores. There are public toilets in Kingswear Square. There is paid parking using the Darthaven Marina carpark\, or you can park in Dartmouth and get a lower ferry across. Look out for your leaders in South Devon National Landscape branded clothing. This walk is slightly longer than others in our series\, expect to be back in Kingswear at around 2pm. \nBring a bottle of water\, a packed lunch/snack\, good footwear and weather-appropriate clothing. Dogs on leads are welcome if making your own way there\, however if booking our transport option\, we are unable to take dogs in the vehicles. \nWe are running a 7 and a 9-seater van for people who don’t have their own transport\, with pick-ups Follaton Arboretum\, Totnes (by wooden sign) at 09:10\, or Paignton Asda (adjacent to the main entrance) at 09:35. \nImportant booking information \n\nFree event\nPre-booking essential via TicketSource\, click on ticket image below. In fact\, Wembury is often found on the list of the top rockpooling spots in the UK. \n  \nDWT’s expert team will take you on a guided rockpool safari by torchlight to meet some of Wembury’s most famous inhabitants\, and to see what they get up to after dark. \n  \nImportant booking information \n\n\n\nBooking required – see Wembury Marine Centre website\nCancellation policy\n\nRefunds will be issued up to 1 day before the event starts\, minus the Eventbrite booking fee.\nIf the event is cancelled by DWT due to poor weather\, you will receive a full refund\n\n\n\n\n\n\nKnow before you go\n\nSuitability\n\nChildren must be aged 8+ years to take part and all children must be accompanied by a paying adult\n\n\nCheck-in / check-out\n\nAll participants must check in on arrival and check out when the event is finished and an emergency contact will also be required\n\n\n Dogs\n\nNo dogs permitted\nAlthough assistance dogs are allowed all year round. High vis jackets provided for those who require one\nMobile phone\nWear wellies/sturdy shoes that can get wet- rocks can be sharp so wearing thick-soled footwear with good grips is essential\nWear weather appropriate clothing and be prepared for unpredictable weather\nLeave rockpool nets at home as we follow the Seashore Code and use our hands and buckets instead (tubs provided)\nBring snacks and drinks as necessary\n\n\nAccessibility\n\nThe event takes place on Wembury beach and the surrounding rocky foreshore\nInvolves walking a good distance\, 200m+\, over very slippery seaweed covered rocks\, steep paths\, sand\, other uneven ground\nThere are steep unguarded edges along the coast\nInstruction is provided verbally by a group leader in English within an outdoor setting where there may be background noise (wind or rain). Printed copies of some information can be made available with advance notice. The event takes place in a popular public place but is not usually crowded once we start rockpooling. Flash photography may be used by staff and participants but is not usually noticeable in daylight. Noise cancelling ear muffs can only be used if the attendee has someone with them who is able to listen and interpret the instructions for them.\nThere is accessible parking at the centre but no wheelchair access to the beach.
